Library Orientation: What you need to know to get ahead

Library Orientation: What you need to know to get ahead

Are you new to Notre Dame or new to your program? Have you decided that it's time to up your expertise on how to use all the services and resources the Hesburgh Libraries offers? This session is for YOU.

Come learn what the Hesburgh Libraries offers to help you be the best you can be.

A brief interactive talk is given about the top ten things you should know, and then you are invited to ask questions that *you* deem most important to your needs. Subject librarians will be invited and will join toward the end of the hour, if available, so you can meet them at this time. A short tour of the Hesburgh Library building will be offered after the official session concludes.

Participants will:

  • Know where and how to access help in the Libraries
  • Learn how to locate physical materials in the Libraries by building, floor and call number
  • Learn to connect to and use online resources to find electronic journals and books, whether on or off campus
  • Locate where to find a calendar of library workshops and events online
  • Identify librarians who can consult on general and subject-specific research needs
  • Understand basic borrowing guidelines for materials at Notre Dame and other libraries
